Step-by-step explanation:
Given The rod AC of a TV disc antenna is fixed at right angles to the wall AB and a rod CD is supporting the disc as shown in Fig. 4. If AC=1.5 m long and CD = 3 m, find (i) tan θ (ii) sec θ + cosec θ.
- The figure is a right angled triangle ACD with AC as base, CD as hypotenuse and AD the opposite side
- From triangle ACD, AC = 1.5 cm, CD = 3 cm
- Triangle ACD is a right angled triangle. From Pythagoras theorem we get
- CD^2 = AD^2 + AC^2
- Or AD^2 = CD^2 – AC^2
- = 3^2 – 1.5^2
- = 9 – 2.25
- = 6.75
- Therefore AD = √6.75
- = 2.5 cm
- Now tan theta = AC / AD
- = 1.5 / 2.5
- = 3/5
- Also sec theta + cosec theta = CD / AD + CD / AC
- = 3/2.5 + 3/1.5
- = 16 / 5
