Step-by-step explanation:

Given The rod AC of a TV disc antenna is fixed  at right angles to the wall AB and a rod  CD is supporting the disc as shown in  Fig. 4. If AC=1.5 m long and CD = 3 m,  find (i) tan θ (ii) sec θ + cosec θ.

  • The figure is a right angled triangle ACD with AC as base, CD as hypotenuse and AD the opposite side
  • From triangle ACD, AC = 1.5 cm, CD = 3 cm
  • Triangle ACD is a right angled triangle. From Pythagoras theorem we get
  • CD^2 = AD^2 + AC^2
  • Or AD^2 = CD^2 – AC^2
  •               = 3^2 – 1.5^2
  •              = 9 – 2.25
  •              = 6.75
  • Therefore AD = √6.75
  •                       = 2.5 cm
  • Now tan theta = AC / AD
  •                           = 1.5 / 2.5
  •                          = 3/5
  • Also sec theta + cosec theta = CD / AD + CD / AC
  •                                                = 3/2.5 + 3/1.5
  •                                                 = 16 / 5
