Mahatma Gandhi had a close relationship with the people of Assam during the struggle of Independence. He visited Assam four times in his life and every time it was for something important.

His first two visits to Assam were for Khadi and Harijans. In these two tours, he focused on explaining to people the usage and importance of using Khadi and the importance of removing untouchability and treating everyone equally.

His third your was for a Congress meeting held in Assam and his fourth visit was for the inauguration of Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust and under this branch of the Trust, a Gram Sevikas Vidyalaya was also to be started.

Gandhiji played a major role in gaining India’s Independence.

Gandhiji played a key role in making India free from British rule. His major beliefs were non-violence and Swadeshi movements. He also believed that no matter what we should always tell the truth and it always wins. He started many movements like Non-cooperation movement, Civil Disobedience movement and Quit India movement to fight against Britishers to gain Independence.

He visited Assam four times and gave a huge importance to this region. He motivated people to involve themselves in many constructive programmes. He visited Assam to promote his idea of Harijans. Gandhiji also inaugurated the “Assam branch of Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust”.
