Sabha and Samiti were the two most democratic institutions where educated and knowledgeable persons from the kingdom took part in decision making during the early vedic age.

In the later vedic age, nomadic tribes vanished and the king's became more powerful inspite of the democratic practices of that era.

In the early vedic period the king exercised a vast amount of power and also had quite an important position to hold.

However, the king could not use the powers he had anytime he wanted since he did have quite a few restrictions.

The king had to keep the confidence of the people and he had to do properly without misuing his powers.

In the late vedic period, there was a growth of royal power and the king was in control of the absolute power.
