let the original salary be x

new salary =x+20percent of x

=x+20x/100

=x+x/5

=6x/5

total increased salary=new salary- original salary

=6x/5 -x

=x/5

percent of new salary, that should be reduced to get the original salary=x/5/6x/5 ×100

x/5 ×5/6x ×100

=100/6

=16.6 percent

hope it helps you
