Sankhya or Samkhya is one among the six schools of Hindu philosophy. It is closely related to the Yoga school of Hinduism. It is an enumerationist philosophy. It accepts three out of six pramanas or proofs as the reliable means of gaining knowledge. They are pratyaksa pramana or perception, anumana pramana or inference and sabda pramana or word. It is considered to be one of the rationalist schools of Indian philosophy.

It is strongly dualist. According to it there are two realities in the universe, the purusa or consciousness and prakriti or matter. It does not directly assert the existence of God. It considers the Vedas to be a reliable source of knowledge. It is an atheistic philosophy. It propounds the theory of gunas or qualities.
