The same amount of current flows through the connecting wires and the bulb
filament. However, it is only the filament that glows. Why?

Answer:

The connecting wire and the filament are made up of different material. The wire may be of Cu or Al whereas filament is made up of tungsten ie Wolfram.. So, the resistance in filament is knowingly made high so that, much heat energy is produced and light is produced due to the tungsten material.
