Answer:

The saponification of a fat or oil is done using NaOH solution for a hot process.

Solution:

Saponification is a process where triglycerides (animal fats or vegetable oils) react with sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide to form glycerol and fatty acid salt termed as soap. This is the basic process involved in the making of soaps and lubricants. Saponification is alkaline hydrolysis of fatty acid esters and is done either as a hot process or cold process. Hot process is done by external heat acceleration and the sodium salt of myristic acid undergoes saponification with aqueous NaOH to form hard soaps. Saponification by cold process uses KOH and produces soft soaps.
