The scale of the map is given by 1: 30000000.

It dies mean that 1 cm on scale us equal to 30000000

Now the two cities are 4 cm apart on nap from each other

As such their distance from each other will be

4 × 30000000

= 120000000 cm

We know 100 cm is one meter and 1000 meter is kilometer

So to convert centimeter value to kilometer, we can divide the centimeter value by 100000

120000000/100000

= 1200 kilometer

Answer the actual distance between two cities are 1200 kilometer

QUESTION :-

The scale of a map is given as 1:30000. Two cities are 4 cm apart on the map. Find the actual distance between them.

SOLUTION :-

Let the actual distance be x cm. Since the distance on the map is directly proportional to the actual distance.

1:30000 = 4 : x

Since the product of the means is equal to the product of the extremes

x = 4 × 30,000

= 1,20,000 cm

= 1.2 kms (1 km = 1,00,000 cm)

Thus, two cities, which are 4 cm apart on the map, are actually 1.2 kms away from each other
