Respected Sir,

Subject: The positive and negative aspects doing projects in schools.

As you are aware, the children are made to do several projects during the academic session. I wish to draw your attention to some of the positive and negative aspects of the project method used in schools.

Some positive aspects are:

1. It involves life-like and purposeful activities which promote learning.

2. A project has a definite attainable goal.

3. Students can plan and perform their learning activities.

4. It is a play-way activity which enhances learning.

5. It promotes learning by doing.

6. It provides a real and direct experience.

7. It encourages spontaneity. The students feel free to express themselves.

8. It provides training for corporate life because students work in groups in the project method.

9. Project method is democratic in nature. All the participants have equal rights, duties and responsibilities.

10. It helps to develop practical skills.

The negative aspects are:

1. It is not possible to design projects for all the topics.

2. It is time consuming and expensive.

3. This method does not provide systematic and adequate learning. It is an incidental learning method.

4. Teachers do not have sufficient information about the method. So its utility is limited.

5. It puts an excessive burden on the teacher.

I hope you agree with my views. I will be very grateful if you could enlighten the people about the usefulness of this method and suggest ways to overcome its limitations.

Yours Sincerely

Sam Samantha
