A fuse wire should have high resistance and low melting point. So that it prevents current higher than the prescribed value to pass . Low melting point will let it to break when high current passes through it because of the heat generated. If due to some reasons the flow of current exceeds the heat produced in it melts it and disconnect from the power supply.
