Given: Total Items are 50 and the mean is 15.

To Find: Find the mean of first sample?

Solution:

  • Now we have given that the second of the two samples is having 50 items and the mean of those 50 items is 15.
  • So the sum of items will be:

          15 x 50 items =  750

  • Now we have given that the total items are 150 and the mean is 16.
  • So the sum will be:

          16 x 150 items = 2400

  • Now, the sum of first sample is = Total items - first sample

          2400 - 750

          = 1650

  • The items are: 150 - 50 = 100
  • The mean of first sample = the sum of first sample / 100

         1650 / 100

         = 16.5

Answer:

So, the mean of first sample IS 16.5
