The secondary oocyte retains bulk of nutrient rich cytoplasm of primary oocyte. The formation of the oocytes is called as the oocytogenesis, The formation of both primary and secondary oocytes takes place.

The primary oocytes tales place at the fetal period and secondary oocytes takes place as a part of ovulation.

After fertilization the sperm provides the genetic material to the zygote.The polar body degenerates after some time.The secondary oocyte serves as the source of nutrients for the zygote until it develops to take the nutrition through placenta.
