False fruits are those fruits in which accessory floral parts also contribute to fruit formation along with ovary. In Apple, the thalamus also contribute to fruit formation. Therefore, it is called a false fruit.

Apple is called as "False fruit" because, the formation of apple is not from ovary of a flower.

Explanation:

The major part of the apple which is the fleshy part is developed from the thalamus and not from the ovary.

Fruits generally develop from the ovaries of flowers. These fruits are known as true fruits. However, sometimes, the other parts of a flower like thalamus and calyx may also form fruits. Theses types of fruits are called as "False fruits".
