Step-by-step explanation:

Given :-

The selling price of an article is 560 at 15% discount.

To find :-

Find its marked price if the same article is sold at 10 % discount find its new selling price?

Solution :-

Let the Marked Price of an article be Rs. X

Discount percentage on it = 15%

=> Discount = 15% of Marked Price

=> Discount = 15% of X

=> Discount = 15% × X

=> Discount = (15/100)×X

=> Discount = 15X/100

=> Discount = Rs. 3X/20

Now,

Selling Price of the article = Rs. 560

We know that

Selling Price = Marked Price - Discount

=> 560 = X-(3X/20)

=> 560 = (20X-3X)/20

=> 560 = 17X/20

=> 17X/20 = 560

=> 17X = 560×20

=> 17X = 11200

=> X = 11200/17

=> X = 658.82

Marked Price of the article = Rs. 658.82

Now ,

Given that

Discount percentage on it = 10%

=> Discount = 10% of MP

=> Discount = 10% of (11200/17)

=>Discount = (10/100)×(11200/17)

=> Discount = 11200/170

=> Discount = 1120/17

=> Discount = 65.88

Discount given on it = Rs. 65.88

Selling Price = Marked Price - Discount

=> SP = 658.82-65.88

=> SP = 592.92

Selling Price = Rs. 592.92

Answer :-

Marked Price of the given article = Rs. 658.82

New Selling Price of the given article =

Rs. 592.92

Used formulae:-

  • Selling Price = Marked Price - Discount

  • Discount is calculated only on Marked Price

  • Discount= MD/100

  • M = Marked Price

  • D% = Discount Percentage

  • D = Discount
