It is true Sadao’s servants reflect the mindset of general people. Their reaction to Tom’s presence in Sadao’s house was pretty ordinary. They could not tolerate their master helping the poor POW. They even left their jobs in protest.
However, Sadao and Hana showed unprecedented maturity, kindness, and humanity. They went many extra miles to help a man in need who was their enemy also by circumstances. They represent those rare human beings who have broader outlook on life.

Sadao and Hana found the white man lying beside the sea.
Though he was the enemy yet the protocols of Sadao prompted him to treat him.
However, he was a bit nationalistic as well as he decided to hand over this enemy to the General whom he was curing.
