Formula used :-
- Short hand is hour hand which complete two rounds in one day .
- Long hand is minute hand which complete 24 rounds in one day.
- Circumference of circle = 2πr
- π = 3.14
Solution :-
Short hand :- (Hour hand)
→ Length = Radius = 10 cm
So,
→ Distance travelled in one round = circumference of circle = 2πr = 2 × 3.14 × 10 = 6.28 × 10 = 62.8 cm
then,
→ Distance travelled in two rounds = 2 × 62.8 = 125.6 cm --------- Equation (1)
Long hand :- (Minute hand)
→ Length = Radius = 12 cm
So,
→ Distance travelled in one round = circumference of circle = 2πr = 2 × 3.14 × 12 = 75.36 cm
then,
→ Distance travelled in 24 rounds = 24 × 75.36 = 1808.64 cm --------- Equation (2)
adding Equation (1) and Equation (2) we get,
→ Total distance travelled by both hands of clock in one day = 125.6 + 1808.64 = 1934.24 cm (Ans.)
Hence, The sum of the distances travelled by their tips in one day is equal to 1934.24 cm .
