The shortest day of the year falls on december 22, why? Give reasons.

because it has the longest night of the year...

itsdelicatebabe: we know that the path of the earth's orbit is elliptical ....so in a year a moment comes (22 december) when the earth is at maximum distance from the sun ...this is the reason why the dark falls soon as the day of 22 dec approaches and it falls a little late as it passe away...
