Solution,

The sides 8 cm, 15 cm and 17 cm forms a right triangle having hypotenuse 17 cm and other two sides are 8 cm and 15 cm.

Area of a triangle is given by :

A=\dfrac{1}{2}\times b\times h\\\\A=\dfrac{1}{2}\times 8\times 15\\\\A=60\ cm^2

Let x is the altitude of the side of length 17 cm. So,

A=\dfrac{1}{2}bx\\\\60=\dfrac{17 x}{2}\\\\x=7.05\ cm

Hence, this is the required solution.
