Explanation:

Handicraft is very important because represents our culture and tradition. It promotes the heritage of a country through the use of indigenous materials and it preserves traditional knowledge and talents. Handicraft is the expression of our history and I think we must encourage artisans to continue the craft production to show the beauty of this art.

I recently enjoyed a nice day in San Gimignano, amazing medieval village in the heart of Tuscany, and I had the pleasure to visit the workshop of two artists, Michelangelo and Raffaello Rubino, who designed and realized SanGimignano1300. It is an amazing miniature of this town which perfectly reproduces in ceramics the town as it existed in the 14th century. The two brothers with the help of other masters and historians reproduced San Gimignano through a patient work of two years. You can admire the beauty of this town and understand its importance as a village situated along the Via Francigena. In the Middle Ages the Via Francigena became the route of pilgrims who travelled to Rome, mainly from France and the town became one of the most important transit and stopping sites for all travelers. Today we can admire only 13 of the 72 towers of the past; these buildings represented the higher symbol of the power of the families who lived in San Gimignano because the building process was not simple or cheap. The Via Francigena was one of the main reasons of the rapid development that led San Gimignano to increase and become an important and powerful place in Tuscany during the Middle Age.
