The digestion of cellulose takes a longer time because the enzymes are produced by the ruminent bacteria live in the gut of herbivore. Longer small intestine ensures that food remains for longer time and proper digestion is possible. In the case of carnivore animals the cellulose is not present in there diet therefore there small intestine is shorter.
