The story revolves around the narrator and the snake. The man was sitting in-front of the mirror admiring himself when a snake suddenly coiled itself around his arm and starting staring at him. The man was terrified as the snake was only a few inches from his face and if it bit him he would have died.

However the snake had a chance to look in the mirror and was smitten by its own beauty. The snake was enchanted by looking at itself in the mirror  and admiring that it did not realize when it uncoiled himself from the man's arm giving him a chance to run away.

The meaning is that not only humans but also animals attracted towards mirror as human see the mirror he thinks that he was so handsome just as the author so while snake saw the the mirror he also thinks how he looks or he is beautiful or not in such thinking the snake move towards mirror from shoulder of writer
