The types of soil vary over place to place and is one of the major physical factors of relief which affects the flora and fauna of a region.
In the following ways, it affects the flora and fauna
(i) The sandy soils of the drawn support cactus and thorny bushes which are found in the northwesters part of the country. In these forests tats, mice, rabbits, fox, wolf, tiger, lion, wild animals, horses and camels are the common animals.
(ii) The wet, marshy, deltaic soils support mangroves and deltaic vegetation. Royal Bengal Tiger, turtles, crocodiles, gharial and snakes are its fauna.
(iii) The hill slopes with some depth of soil have conical trees. The common animals found in these forests are Kashmir stage spotted dear, wild sheep, jack rabbit, Tibetan antelope, yak, snow leopard, squirrels, shaggy horn wild ibex, bear and rare red panda, sheep and goats with thick hair.
Thus, it can be said that soil types affect flora and fauna of a region.

Soil is also known as living forms. All the plants and animals depend on soil . At present time India 40 percent soil is degraded or damaged due to the practice of over grazing, mining and irrigation.
