in western ghats, the soil varies from humus rich peat in the moutain areas to laterite in the lower elevation and high rainfall belts. the soil is generally acidic. it receives rainfall from the southwest monsoon. Maharashtra, Goa , Kerela, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat belongs to western ghats states. Annual percipitation in this region exceeds 2,540 mm and is as high as 6,250 mmat Mahabaleshwar on the crest of western ghats
