the solution of oxide is placed in a test tube on litmus test it changes red litmus to Blue how can you identify if it is a metal oxide or a non metal oxide

the oxides of metals are basic in nature.

eg: magnesium + oxygen ⇒ magnesium oxide

     magnesium oxide + water ⇒ magnesium hydroxide

     (turns red litmus blue)

the oxides of non metals are acidic in nature

eg: carbon + oxygen ⇒ carbon dioxide

     carbon dioxide + water ⇒ carbonic acid

     (turns blue litmus red)

hence, in the following question, the solution is a metal oxide  as it turns red litmus blue.
