The correct answer is Option (C).

Here X = concentrated HNO3

and Y = concentrated HCl

This mixture is called Aqua Regia or Royal water in Latin. It is used to remove gold and other metal in micro electronics. Usually, gold does not reacts with acids, however Aqua Regia can dissolve gold. When gold is dipped in Aqua Regia, the outer layer is dissolved in Aqua Regia and the inner layer appears shining. This causes loss of weight in gold during polishing and hence reduction in weight.
