HERE'S YOUR ANSWER

The speed of sound is maximum in case of SOLIDS due to their maximum per volume density.

As the air or other gases have very low per volume density, it is difficult for sound to travel faster.

So, at a conclusion we get that sound can travel much more distance in solids than in air.
