The speed of a boat in still water is 5 km/hr and the speed of the stream is 2 km/hr. Find the distance that can be rowed by the boat in 4 hours. If:

(i) the boat is rowed upstream,

(II) the boat is rowed downstream.​

Answer:

The speed of the boat is 5km/hr in still water...

The speed of the stream is 2km/hr...

Hence the speed of boat when rowed upstream is ( 5 - 2 ) km/hr = 3km/hr

Hence the speed of boat when rowed downstream is ( 5 + 2 ) km/hr...

(I) 3 ×4 = 12 km

(ii) 7× 4 = 28 km

This is your required answer
