Question : The speed of an express train is 10 km/h slower than the speed of a superfast train. If the superfast train takes 30 minutes to cover a distance of 80 km, find the time taken by the express train to cover this distance.

Solution : Let the speed of the express train be = x km/h

& the speed of superfast train be = x+10 km/h

Distance,d = 80km

Time taken by superfast train = 30min

T=  \frac{1}{2}

So,

Speed of superfast train = x+10

=>  \frac{80}{\frac{1}{2}}

=> 80×2 = 160km/h

& Speed of express train = x

=> 160-10 = 150km/h

Time taken by express train =  \frac{d}{s}

t =  \frac{80}{150}

t = 1.8 h
