Answer:

μ=c/v

μ is the refractive index

c is the speed of light in air or vacuum.

v is the speed of light in medium.

therefore,v= c/μ

= 3×10⁸/1.5 =(30/15)×10⁸=2× 10⁸m/s

Given

  • Velocity of light in air = 3 × 10 m/s
  • Refractive index of glass = 1.5

To Find

  • Velocity of light in glass

Solution

☯ Here we are gonna use the Snell's law

  • sin i/sin r = n₂/n₁ = v₁/v₂

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

According to the Question :

➞ n₂/n₁ = v₁/v₂

  • Refractive index of glass = 1.5
  • Refractive index of air (approx) = 1
  • Speed of light in air = 3 × 10 m/s
  • Speed of light in glass = ?

➞ 1.5/1 = (3 × 10⁸)/v₂

➞ 1.5 = (3 × 10⁸)/v₂

➞ v₂ = (3 × 10⁸)/1.5

➞ v₂ = 2 × 10⁸ m/s

∴ The velocity of light in glass is 2 × 10 m/s

BrainlyIAS: It's Snell's Law not Shell's law . By the way , " Nice answer :-) ♥ "
