speed =1500 m/s
distance=1500 x 0.1=150
therefore the distance between the driver and the under sea rock=150/2=75 m

Sound waves:

The deep sea diver should be 75 meters to hear his own echo.

Explanation:

2d=vt

Where, 2d is the total distance, v is the sound's velocity in sea, and t is the time by the sound to travel the distance.

To hear his own echo means the time is no longer than 0.1 second and 1500 m/s is the sound's velocity.

\Rightarrow d=\frac{v t}{2}

\Rightarrow d=\frac{1500 \times 0.1}{2}

\Rightarrow d=\frac{150}{2}

\therefore d=75 \mathrm{m}

When a sound wave travel from surface to the bottom of the earth, the sound echo which means the sound travels the distance twice. Thus, the velocity and time of the sound is equal to twice the distance.
