Answer: Total time taken by boat is 5.3 hours.

Explanation: Speed of boat= 8kmph

Speed of water = 4kmph

Speed of boat upstream = Speed of boat + speed of water

                                         = 8+ 4 = 12kmph

Speed of boat downstream = speed of boat - speed of water

                                              = 8-4= 4kmph

Total distance covered by boat = 16kmph

Time taken by boat in upstream = distance ÷speed = 16÷4 = 4 hours

Time taken by boat in downstream= distance÷ speed = 16÷12=1·3hours

Total time taken by boat = 4 + 1.3= 5.3 hours
