The spiro was a very simple celled organism that once lived in a fresh water lake. It was so simple that it did not have to rely on meeting the opposite sex in order to reproduce.baby spiros are identical to their parents, budded off directly from their parents cell.
The main competition for the spiro's in the lake was from another simple organism called hiro, which looked very similar to the spiros but however needed the opposite sex for reproducing. The lake was fed by an island river system and although it usually contained some water, the water levels fluctuated with seasons. At first the spiro's number was very high compared to the hiro's. Later on however it was the hiro's that flourished while the spiro 's numbers declined.
Reflect on the information and hypothesise why the hiros may eventually outnumbered the spiro's.

this occurs due to the presence of a large number of invasive species in the lake

As a result of this there is in appropriate flow of nutrition in the food web.
  • the invasive species have a capability to reproduce very fast and as a result of this they become a threat to the health of the native organism of the other creatures which are living in that particular area. Hence they finish all the nutrition in a particular area causing the death of that organism.
