Given : The square of a number added to the number gives 30.

To Find :  Which of the following is the number

(a) 6

(b) -5

(c) -6

(d) 7

Solution:

Assume that Number is  N

square of a number  = N²

The square of a number added to the number gives 30.

=> N² + N = 30

=> N² + N - 30 = 0

Using Middle term split

=> N² + 6N - 5N - 30 = 0

=> N(N + 6) - 5(N + 6) = 0

=> (N - 5)(N + 6) = 0

=> N = 5  or N = - 6

From the given options -6 is the correct answer
