Hey mate,

Let the number be x

then, according to the question,

x^2=22x+48

so,x^2-22x-48=0

by splitting middle term,

x^2+2x-24x-48=0

x(x+2)-24(x+2)=0

(x-24)(x+2)=0

x=24,or x=-2

This condition satisfies for both 24 and -2. So, both can be the required answer.

X*X= 22x +48
X^2-22x-48
X^2-24x+2x-48
Solving quadratic equation by splitting the middle term
X=24/-2
