The cardiac cycle is divided into 2 phases:

- Systole

- Diastole

It completes in 4 stages:

- Atrial systole- lasts for 0.1 seconds. This step involves the contraction of atria which pushes the blood to the ventricle.

- Ventricular systole – lasts for 0.3 seconds. Here blood moves to the rest of the body when pushed through the ventricle.

- Atrial diastole – lasts for 0. Seconds. The atria relax and filled up with the blood.

- Ventricular diastole – lasts for 0.5 seconds. In this step, ventricles are filled up with blood passively from the atria.
