The strength of a school increased by 20% in one year , and decreased by 20% in the next year . Is the final strength greater or less than the original one , and by how much percent?​

=100+100*20/100

=100+20

=120

then the strength of the school after increase is 120

then it decreased by 20%

so 120-120*20%

=120-120*20/100

=120-120*20/100

=120-24

=96

now the strength of the school is 96

at first the strength of the school is 100 and now it is 96

hence it is decreased by (100-96) =4

percentage of decrease=

amount of decrease/amount of strength at first*100

=4/100*100

=4%

hence the strength of the school is decreased by 4%
