let the numbers be 14x and 5x

given:

14x+5x=1140

19x=1140

x=60

hence the strength of boys and girls are (14*60=840) and (5*60=300)

Answer:

Total students : 1140

Ratio given 14:5

total of given ratio 19

so (14/19) * 1140 =

first multiply 14*1140= 15,960

now divide 15,960/19 = 840

so u get 840 boys

u now have total number students and number of boys.. u now have to find out number of girls

so total number of students - number of boys

1140 - 840= 300

Ans 840 boys and 300 girls
