The Thar Desert is a subtropical desert land situated in the north-western part of India. Its diversified habitat and beautiful ecosystem offers many tourist attractions in the region. Some of the endangered species of wild animals are also found here. Its colourful culture can be seen in the folk music and dance of the tribes, the traditional dresses and jewellery worn by the people. The sand dunes are another attraction of the region.

The golden city - Jaisalmer, blue city - Jodhpur, city of lakes - Udaipur and the pink city - Jaipur are some of the desert cities of Rajasthan. Among them Jaisalmer is called the jewel of desert. It is well known for its magnificent fort, golden sand dunes, camel safari and colourful culture.

The sub-tropical regions relate to the regions that lie just above the Tropic of Cancer or the regions below the Tropic of Capricorn. Since the Tropic of Cancer travels through India, the area above this latitude falls under the sub-tropical region. They have a warm climate.

The regions of the Indian sub-continent that fall under the sub-tropical areas include the - foothills of the Himalayas, the plain of Haryana and Punjab that are adjacent to the Himalayas, the areas in Rajasthan that lie in the eastern side of the Aravalli range, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and the northern regions of Assam and West Bengal.

There is a huge difference in the rainfall in these areas, which leads to the growth of vast varieties of natural vegetation. Also, these places have high mountain peaks at the Himalayas and the Thar desert in Rajasthan, which is the most visited tourist places.

Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, and Arunachal Pradesh also have this kind of climate and they have some amazing places as tourist spots.
