equivalent discount = X + Y - X ×Y /100

X = 40%
Y = 30%

= 40+30 - 40×30/100
=40+30 - 1200/100
= 40+30- 12
=70-12
= 58%

this is your answer.......

Answer:

Single discount = 58%

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : Two successive discount 40% and 30%

To find : Equivalent to a single discount

Solution : Equivalent discount formula

D=x+y-\frac{x\times y}{100}

where x=40 , y=30

D=40+30-\frac{40\times 30}{100}

D=70-12

D=58

Therefore, The equivalent of successive discount to a single discount = 58%
