10th harmonic is 750 Hz

it is given that the successive frequencies of standing waves setup in an open organ pipe are 150 Hz , 225 Hz and 300 Hz.

we have to find the frequency of 10th harmonic.

first find ratio of successive harmonics are ;

150 : 225 : 300 ⇔2 : 3 : 4

but we know,

in case open organ pipe,

the frequencies of harmonics are in the ratio of 1 : 2 : 3 : 4 ......

so, it is clear that 150 Hz is not first harmonic but it is 2nd harmonic.

so, first harmonic should be f₁ = 225 - 150 = 75 Hz

now 10th harmonic = 10f₁ = 10 × 75 = 750 Hz

Therefore 10th harmonic is 750 Hz
