Let the consecutive even numbers be x and x + 2

Sum of the even numbers = 26

x + x + 2 = 26

2x + 2 = 26

2x = 26 - 2

2x = 24

x = 24/2

x = 12

The first number be x = 12

The second number be x + 2 = 12 + 2 = 14

Given,

the sum of two consecutive even numbers is 26.

To Find,

the two consecutive even numbers whose sum is 26.

Solution,

let the two consecutive even numbers be x and x+2.

so, according to the given situation

x + ( x+2) = 26

2x + 2 = 26

2( x + 1) = 26                      ( taking 2 common )

\frac{2(x + 1)}{2} = \frac{26}{2}                           ( dividing both sides by 2)

x + 1 = 13

x +1 -1 = 13 - 1                      ( substracting 1 on both sides)

x = 12

so, x + 2 = 12 + 2

     x + 2 = 14

Hence the two consecutive even numbers x = 12 and x + 2 = 14 .
