x+y=9---i ; 1/x+1/y=1/2---ii
in ii.... (x+y)2=xy
=> 9*2=xy=18
=> x=18/y
now, in i....
18/y+y=9
=> 18+y²=9y
=>y²-9y+18=0
=>(y-3)(y-6)=0
so, y=3 or y=6
for finding x....
when y=3,.. x+3=9
=>x=6
when y=6,.. x+6=9
=>x=3
