Let the 3 consecutive numbers be:
- x
- (x + 1)
- (x + 2)
According to the question,
Their sum is 114
So,
x + (x + 1) + (x + 2) = 114
⇒ x + x + 1 + x + 2 = 114
⇒ x + x + x + 1 + 2 = 114
⇒ 3x + 3 = 114
⇒ 3x = 114 - 3
⇒ 3x = 111
⇒ x = 111 ÷ 3
∴ x = 37
Now, we know that 3 numbers are x, (x + 1) and (x + 2)
So the numbers are
- x = 37
- x + 1 = 38
- x + 2 = 39
The numbers are 37, 38, 39
Largest number = 39
