Let the two number be x and y :-

Sum of 8 times a number and 5 times another number = 184

→ 8 × x + 5 × y = 184

→ 8x + 5y = 184 -i

First number - second number = -3

→ x - y = -3

→ x = y - 3 -ii

Substituting the value of x from equation ii in equation i :-

→ 8x + 5y = 184

→ 8 ( y - 3 ) + 5y = 184

→ 8y - 24 + 5y = 184

→ 13y - 24 = 184

→ 13y = 208

→ y = 208 / 13

→ y = 16

→ x = y - 3

→ x = 16 - 3

→ x = 13

Numbers = 13 and 16
