Let the age of son 5 years ago be x
Therfore present age of son= x+5
Therfore present age of father = 4x+5
According to the problem,
(x + 5)+(4x+5)= 60
=> x +4x +5 +5 = 60
=> 5x = 60 - 10
=> x = 50/5 = 10
Present age of son = x+5 = 10+5 years = 15yrs
Present age of father= 4x+5 = 4×10 + 5years
= 45years
Hope this helps.

Let present age of father and son be x and y respectively
According to question
x+y=60 _____(1)
and,
(x-5)=4(y-5)
x-5=4y-20
x-4y=15. _____(2)
subtracting (2) from (1)
we get

5y=75
y=15
x=45. (from(1))
present age of father is 45 years and his son is 15 years
