Let son age = x

Now let age of father = 45-x

Before 5 yrs

Age of son = x- 5

Age of father = 45-x-5= 40- x

(x-5)(40-×)=150

Now u can find value of x and hence find the agea

rifaat97: y cant father's age be x anx sons age be Y ??
arpitasahani: No this is a question of quadratic equation
suryanshsss503: Listen...it can be solved by any of the two ways....either by linear equation in two variables or by quadratic equation
suryanshsss503: But....in my views quadratic method is much better....as it is easy to solve
arpitasahani: How by linear equations ? Pls tell
arpitasahani: Linear equation u need to have two pair of equations but here u cant make 2 equations

Answer:let father's age be 'x' years

according to ques sum of their ages is 45 years,

therefore son's age is 45-x years

ATQ;

(x-5) * (45-x-5) = 150

(x-5)*(40-x) = 150

40x- x^2 - 200 + 5x =150

45x - x^2 = 350

x^2-45x+350= 0

x^2 -10x - 35x + 350 = 0

x (x-10) -35 (x-10) =0

Therefore; x=10 or x=35

so present age of father is 35 years
