The sum of ages of father and his son is 60. After 14 years, father's age will be three times the age of the son. Find their present ages

let the age of son be x years
and let the age of father be y years

x+y=60....... (I)

after 14 years age of son will be x+14
and age of father will be y+14
again a/q
y+14=3(x+14)
y+14= 3x+42
3x-y = 14-42=-28 .......(ii)

from I and ii we get
x+y =60........I
3x-y=-28
by adding we get
4x= 32
x=8
therefore age of son =8 years
and age of father = 52 years
