Answer:First let the first digit x and the second digit y, so we have x+y = 8 *Equation 1* (which correlates to the sentence the sum of the digits is 8)

Second let the number z be 10x+y(for example the sum of digits of 53 is 8 however is is in fact 10(5)+3) as the question states if 36 is added the number becomes 10y+x(it switches positions, it become 10(3)+5 with reference to my last example) hence we have a second equation 10x+y+36= 10y+x

Solving it we obtain 9x-9y=-36

9y-9x= 36 *Equation 2*

Multiplying *equation 1* by 9 we have 9x+9y = 72

Adding the last two equations we have 18y= 108 so y = 6 and X = 8–6 = 2

So the number is originally 26.
