sum = 655

first two number sum =

85 × 2 = 170

and third number is 125

170 + 125 = 295

remaining two number sum is

655 - 295 = 360

average = 360/2 = 180

The given question is The sum of five numbers is 655. The average of the first two numbers is 85 and the third number is 125. Find the average of the two numbers

The solution to the given question is we have to find the average of the last two numbers.

Let the 5 numbers be a1,a2,a3,a4, and a5.

It is given that the average of the first two numbers is 85.

The average is calculated as the division of the sum. of the terms and the total number of terms.

For the first two terms, the Average is 85.

 \frac{sum}{no \: of \: terms}  = 85 \\  \frac{a1 + a2}{2}  = 85 \\ a1 + a2 = 2(85) \\ a1 + a2 = 170

The third term is given as 125.

The sum of all 5 terms is given as 655

therefore, expansion of. this is

170+125+a4+a5=655

295+a4+a5 = 655.

a4+a5=655-295

= 360

The average of the last two numbers is found to be

 \frac{360}{2}  = 180

The average of the last two numbers is found to be 180.
