Answer:

The fraction is 5/13.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given :-

  • The sum of numerator and denominator of fraction is 18.
  • If denominator is increased by 2, the fraction reduces to 1/3.

To find :-

  • The fraction.

Solution :-

Let the numerator of the fraction be x and the denominator of the fraction be y.

According to the 1st condition ,

  • The sum of numerator and denominator of the fraction is 18.

x+y = 18

→ x = 18-y.....................(I)

According to the 2nd condition,

  • If denominator is increased by 2, the fraction reduces to 1/3.

\to\sf{\dfrac{x}{y+2}=\dfrac{1}{3}}

  • Put x = 18-y from eq (I)

\to\sf{\dfrac{18-y}{y+2}=\dfrac{1}{3}}

→ 54-3y = y+2

→ -3y-y = 2-54

→ -4y = -52

→ 4y = 52

→ y = 13

  • Denominator = 13

Now put y = 13 in eq(I) for getting the value of x.

x = 18-y

→ x = 18-13

→ x = 5

  • Numerator = 5

Therefore,

{\boxed{\sf{The\: fraction=\dfrac{5}{13}}}}
